New Beauty And the Beast Clip Shows Emma Watson Singing 'Belle'

A new clip from Disney's live action Beauty and the Beast shows off the lead Emma Watson's singing. The clip features a snippet of the bonjour-filled song "Belle" which was also in the beginning of the original Beauty and the Beast Disney film. See it below:

The new "Belle" song is close to orginal with essentially the same lyrics. However, the visuals and the dialogue interlude are a bit different from the original. In the original song, the man Belle talks to about her book seems pretty distracted rather than simply dismissive. He's working and when Belle gushes about her book, he sort of interrupts her and continues on with his work.

In this version, he's much ruder and flat-out tells Belle her book sounds boring. I have to admit that, while harsher, this shows that Belle isn't on the same wavelength as the townspeople a bit better. In the original, that scene came off like the townspeople were too busy working to read and Belle just had a lot of free time.

The new song also adds stuff like Belle almost walking on top of girls trying to do their chores. This shows that the townspeople's assessment of her being "dazed and distracted" is actually true. Unless she's just being a jerk, but that seems highly unlikely.

I'm looking forward to seeing the movie's take on this classic story. What do you think of this version of the song? How does in measure up to the original?

Beauty and the Beast debuts March 17.
