Kristian Nairn may have put his Game of Thrones days behind him, but nobody can forget his fantastic exit. In a new ad from KFC, Nairn channels Hodor once more, and he’s seen trying to hold back a bunch of hungry customers who want some “Chicken and fries.”
If you remember the show, it was revealed that “Hodor” was actually a shortened version of “Hold the door,” which embedded itself in young Hodor’s (then Wyllis) speech when Bran Stark caused him to suffer a seizure with his reckless warging.
With the KFC version, however, they simply just morphed the “chicken and fries” phrase into “chicken and rice.” It’s pretty clever till you realize it totally banked on a heartbreaking moment in Game of Thrones. Shame on you, consumer.
Nairn may not be in Game of Thrones anymore, but that’s the way the show goes. Fans have probably gone numb on the inside from losing so many characters they cared about.
Get ready to have your heart broken again when Game of Thrones season 7 premieres on HBO on July 16.
