Video Breakdown of How CGI is Overused in Some Marvel Films & Bad VFX

Here's a fascinating video essay that offers a detailed breakdown of how the VFX in the Marvel films progressively got worse and how the studios started to overuse CGI effects instead of making good use of practical effects.

The video was created by YouTuber Browntable and it highlights how CGI is being overused in Marvel films like Avengers: Age of Ultron, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, and Black Panther. They've built real costumes for the films but we mostly see them in CGI form in the films. The video also points out the lack of wrinkling in Spider-Man's CGI suit.

I'm glad he brought up the final fight scene in Black Panther. That was just full of CGI and it's interesting to see the comparison of the visual effects with that of X-Men's years ago. "We're stuck with two cartoons fighting, and it's so ugly as hell," the video says. It's just disappointing to see how Marvel has overused CGI in their films over the years, and I hope they'll use more practical effects for future films.
