Heath Ledger Documentary Clip Explores The Creation Of The Joker For The Dark Knight

Back in May, Spike TV released a documentary about late actor Heath Ledger called I Am Heath Ledger, and the movie followed the actor’s journey into Hollywood leading up to his death. The documentary also explores his cinematic creation of undoubtedly one of the best comic book villains of all time, the Joker, and a clip has found its way online.

A lot of fans have known for a while that Ledger had locked himself away to come up with the look and mannerisms for the character. This lead to one of the most original and iconic iterations of the Clown Prince of Crime, and The Dark Knight remains to be one of the standards for what a “good” comic book movie is.

What’s interesting is, despite Ledger’s supposed ‘disappearance’ into the character, a lot of the people who worked with him say that he was still pleasant when the cameras weren’t rolling. This is a sharp contrast to Jared Leto who supposedly dived headfirst into the Joker-hole and started creeping out his cast mates behind the scenes. Heath Ledger’s performance is considered (inter)stellar, and he didn’t have to send anyone some used condoms or anal beads to give the character life.

For now, Jared Leto still has a lot to show for his version of the Joker, and hopefully he’ll be able to match the perfection that is Ben Affleck’s Batman.
