Back in 1999, Hasbro purchased Wizards of the Coast, the publisher of Magic: The Gathering and other popular tabletop products, for $325 million USD. However, the YouTube channel Alpha Investments has brought up the rumor predicting that the toy company is "prepping" to sell its Wizards of the Coast subsidiary in three to five years.

According to Rudy of Alpha Investments, his financial analyst friend shared a rumor that Hasbro "appears to be prepping" Wizards of the Coast for a possible sale in the next three to five years. As Rudy states this rumor is "based on the direction and decisions that are shown to the public." As an example to illustrate where the future of Wizards of the Coast could be heading, he brings up the story of how MySpace was initially sold for $580 million USD but a few years later, it was sold again for $35 million USD.

The rumor speculates that Wizards of the Coast is ramping up their products as a way to prep them for sale. Rudy also brings up the time when Hasbro revealed during the Hasbro Investor Day 2017 that they "produced" 117 million Magic: The Gathering booster packs. The rumor claims that the key is to "hide problem" while they appraise the value of the Wizards of the Coast division so that they could sell the subsidiary at its peak value. With the rise of digital products and mixed feedback in the community, it's hard to predict whether or not Wizards of the Coast's value will increase in the next few years, but this rumor brings up some interesting points from a financial analyst's point of view. But note that there's no solid evidence right now, and anything could still happen, so take this with a grain of salt.
