George R.R. Martin Asks Stephen King: 'How The Fuck Do You Write So Fast?'

Check out this nearly hour-long conversation between writing luminaries Stephen King and George R.R. Martin. It's worth listening to the whole video, but if you don't have much time and want to get to the highlight, skip to around 50:27 and hear Martin ask the one question he’s always wanted to ask King. The moment is priceless.

The interview came from a recent event in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Martin, who's known for his infamous writing pace when it comes to A Song of Ice and Fire series, demaded to know how King writes "so many books, so fast".

It's interesting to know how they approach their work ethic. While Martin takes his time, King tries to "get six pages a day everyday" when he's working. This is the same kind of work ethic that his memoir On Writing reflected. It's all about setting writing goals daily to complete a larger project. King also brought up J.K. Rowling's experience on being pressured to finish the seventh Harry Potter book while being at an event in New York and having vacation with her kids. Maybe you can try to stat writing six pages a day, George, so we can read The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring before the HBO show finishes.
