Check Out the VFX Breakdown for Star Wars: The Last Jedi's Bombing Run

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is set to hit home video early next month, and we’ve been getting new reveals online bit by bit. They’ve released the VFX breakdown of the bombing run in the beginning of the movie, and it’s cool how the entire scene was brought to life.

It had been revealed that Rian Johnson wanted to try and do the run with actual models, but it had been agreed upon that CGI was the cheapest, quickest, and most efficient way to shoot the scene. The scene wasn’t short on practical props, though, as they built a full A-Wing to shoot the sequence. I’m positive we’ve also yet to see footage of the practical interior for T-Wing bombers.

I’m a sucker for space battles, and though Star Wars: The Force Awakens had its own X-Wings vs. TIE Fighters sequence, I was kind of annoyed how it was intercut with Rey and Kylo Ren’s lightsaber duel. I guess I just wanted a full sequence committed to ship-to-ship battles.

The home release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi promises over 2 hours of extra footage, and we’ll probably see an extended VFX reel. Besides that we also get a feature-length documentary behind-the-scenes, as well as some other in-the-making content for the film.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits digital March 13, and Blu-Ray/DVD on March 27.
