Watch Hilariously Dark Parody Trailer for 'True Detective Pikachu'

Last week saw the release of the Detective Pikachu trailer, and the internet practically wet itself in excitement. The memes are coming in waves, and The Ringer has come up with this fun parody trailer for True Detective Pikachu.

Though Detective Pikachu sells itself as a kid-friendly movie, the notion that it can get as dark as an actual detective drama is pretty hilarious. Though I doubt any official material will be released, I can imagine all the other parodies following suit online. Just imagine if the movie became a hit how wild the internet would go.

For now, reception for the film has been mostly positive. Though some have some gripes about how the other Pokemon look, it seems that everyone agrees that the titular Detective Pikachu is an overnight sensation. He’s adorable as hell, but I don’t know if everyone is onboard with him being voiced by Ryan Reynolds.

Either way, this film could open a lot of doors for big-budget anime adaptations. Though those never really end well (e.g. Death Note), you can’t blame Hollywood for trying to milk the brand. Maybe this can open doors like Edge of Tomorrow did.

A young man joins forces with Detective Pikachu to unravel the mystery behind his father's disappearance. Chasing clues through the streets of Ryme City, the dynamic duo soon discover a devious plot that poses a threat to the Pokémon universe.

Catch Detective Pikachu in theaters May 10, 2019.
