Watch Early Toy Story Storyboard Where Woody Was Actually The Villain

Toy Story was a big hit when it came out in 1995, but it was very close to being terrible before it got a major rework from the guys at Pixar. Originall, Woody was made to be this “sarcastic jerk” and there’s a storyboard of him bullying the toys after his alleged “murder” of new guy Buzz Lightyear.

Check him out:

Seeing that Woody is the heart and soul of the series, I guess it’s great that they managed to rework him into a character that was more sympathetic and less awful. It was said that the Disney executives weren’t pleased with these storyboards when they first saw them, and I think they were right to have the rewrite.

For now, it looks like we’re going to have one final ride with Woody and the gang for Toy Story 4. While a lot of people thought that TS 3 was the perfect end for the franchise, I guess Pixar still had one more story to tell. If anything, the movie has been getting a lot of fantastic reviews, and it’s likely we have another Pixar hit on our hands.

Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the gang embark on a road trip with Bonnie and a new toy named Forky. The adventurous journey turns into an unexpected reunion as Woody's slight detour leads him to his long-lost friend Bo Peep. As Woody and Bo discuss the old days, they soon start to realize that they're worlds apart when it comes to what they want from life as a toy.

Catch Toy Story 4 when it hits theaters June 21.
