Watch: CG Artists Attempt to Fix the Scorpion King from The Mummy Returns

The Corridor Crew from Youtube have found success in a new series where VFX artists react to good and bad CGI, and they’ve decided to go a new direction with their channel. Just in they’ve decided to fix some of the terrible CGI they’ve critiqued, and they decided to do that to the shot of the Rock’s Scorpion King from The Mummy Returns.

While there are several things wrong with the shot, one of the biggest mistakes if how they rendered the Scorpion King’s face. Corridor Crew decided to remedy this by using DeepFake technology, and though it isn’t perfect, it’s a vast improvement on what the original movie gave us.

The rest of the team decided to work on the light and camera work, all in an attempt to make the Scorpion King look a lot more realistic.

If anything, I’m sure the team could have done more to improve on the video, but they did challenge themselves to be done with the clip by the end of the day. If anything, we know that Hollywood CGI tech has gone a long long way, but now and then we can still get some terrible CG making it into the film—just look at Marvel’s Black Panther.
