Thor: Ragnarok Honest Trailer Celebrates the Weirdness of Taika Waititi

Marvel Studios took a risk when they hired indie darling Taika Waititi to direct a big budget film like Thor: Raganrok, but based on the audience reception and how the film did in the box office, Waititi was definitely worth it. Now with the release of Thor: Ragnarok on home video, Screen Junkies has come up with their honest trailer for the film.

Meet Thor, God of Thunder, who, despite being able to shoot lightning from his hands, spends most of the film getting electrocuted.

I’ll admit, though I love Taika Waititi as a director, I don’t think Ragnarok is one of his most clever films. For some reason, all of the characters ended up being more cartoonish than they were in previous installments, and just like the Honest trailer points out, almost everything from exposition to serious emotional beats is tagged by jokes.

That’s not to say that Ragnarok was still a fun ride. It’s delightful to watch Jeff Goldblum just be himself as the Grandmaster, and  Taika Waititi’s every line as Korg is comedy gold. The movie just didn’t feel like the end of the Thor trilogy for me. Then again, neither did Captain America: Civil War.

Thor: Ragnarok is now available for home video.
