Honest Trailers: Why is Godzilla King of the Monsters Still So Boring?

Legendary had followed up with Kong: Skull Island with Godzilla: King of the Monsters earlier this year, and now Screen Junkies has released their Honest Trailer take for the film. Too bad for the movie, because they are not pulling back any punches.

Strap in for two long hours of non-stop Kaiju high jinks that you could almost see when they’re not obscured by blizzards, hiding behind waterfalls, submerged beneath the ocean, flying through debris, and whatever’s happening here; because Godzilla forbids we see a monster fight in a clear sunny day.

Though King of Monsters had decided to overcompensate after the disappointment over Godzilla (2014), the trailer does have a point that a big part of the film still ends up boring, It’s probably due to the family drama focused on the Russell’s not really being that intriguing, and the rest of the human characters just there to help track Godzilla.

If anything, I actually thought a lot of the world-building was great. I really liked the concept of an underwater city where Godzilla used to be worshiped. I also think it’s goofy and fantastic that Godzilla manages to help save the Earth naturally with the way his body is built.

King of the Monsters did underperform in the box office, but there’s no stopping Legendary from making Godzilla vs. Kong for 2020. I mean, the film is already in production, so there’s no stopping it now. Though KotM isn’t perfect, I thought it was exactly what I signed up for, and I think a lot of people feel the same way, despite the underperformance.
