Galaxy Quest Honest Trailer: One of the Best Star Trek Films Isn’t a Trek Film at All

Screen Junkies is celebrating the release of their first full-length documentary on the movie Galaxy Quest, so it would only make sense that they would also release an Honest Trailer for one of the most celebrated Trek/non-Trek films of all time.

In a universe full of crappy Star Trek movies, the best one in decades had nothing to do with Star Trek but also everything to do with Star Trek.

Just in case you don’t know what Galaxy Quest is all about, the story is basically focused on the cast of a fictional sci-fi television show (not too different from Star Trek ) that somehow find their way into an actual starship that is run by aliens who believe that they are the characters they play. Tim Allen plays a William Shatner/Captain Kirk type, with Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Sam Rockwell and Tony Shalhoub playing other archetypes of a sci-fi show.

What’s amazing is that the movie was able to accurately portray the ups and downs of the Trek franchise, from the disillusioned actors to the crazy fanbase. We get a lot of the tropes that we could expect from a classic Trek series, while at the same time, the characters in the show are made to portray real-life problems of the actual Trek actors from being typecast to having to deal with obnoxious co-stars.

The documentary Never Surrender is now available for digital purchase.
