IOGEAR Fokus Mouse 2 Gaming Mouse - Review

IOGEAR Fokus Mouse 2 Gaming Mouse - Review
8 out of 10

Iogear's Fokus 2 gaming mouse has a precision cast aluminum frame, which partially explains why it's a heavy mouse weighin in at 130g, so if you prefer a lightweight mouse designed to move easily across your desk, the weight of this unit will disappoint you. However, if you have larger hands or don't care much about flying the mouse effortlessly, the Fokus 2 is a great pick.

Iogear, a subsidiary of Taiwanese parent company ATEN International, has focused on a futuristic interpretation of 'gamer' aesthetic with its accessories, featuring sharp angles and colorful RGB lighting, and the Fokus 2 mouse looks brilliant with these features. The hex pattern at the side panels and the light pulsing through the unit's seams give it a futuristic look. Its cast aluminum frame is wrapped in a blacked-out satin powder coating, and I enjoyed its matte-black, soft-touch finish.

Fokus 2 has eight customizable buttons can be customized to perform virtually any function you want, but one issue with the unit's layout is the position of the left side thumb buttons, which are positioned a bit far back on the top of the left panel that you have to bend your thumb uncomfortably to reach them. It might take some time to get used to pressing these buttons in shooter games where you need to perform critical moves fast, but personally, I have no problem using them in other games like Magic: The Gathering Arena. When I customized my Fortnite keybinds to use two of the left side buttons for building, it was easy enough for my thumb to adapt, but it's definitely not the best mouse for this kind of function. The other two side buttons on the right mouse are mapped by default to volume control, but they're also perched too far back. Its ambidextrous design gives FOKUS II users complete customization and control ability for their gaming style.

The mouse functions as good as it looks with its Pixart PMW-3360 optical censor that performs well with a CPI up to 12,000 dpi, which is sensitive enough for most users. You can also program five different dpi settings and instantly shift between each with just a press of a button, and its scroll wheel feels well-balanced. Fokus 2 feels precise and responsive in the game, but it also works well for productivity tasks.

The Kaliber Gaming user interface software for Fokus 2 is simple, making it easy for Fokus 2 gamers to reprogram any of the eight customizable buttons to activate keyboard commands or create custom macros. There are also five profiles for each mouse, so if you're planning to use it for multiple reasons or sharing it with others that have different settings.

Despite its heavy weight, Fokus 2 is a great-performing gaming mouse that looks great, and it's competitively priced at $43.99.
