Despite Avengers: Infinity War making a ton of cash in the box office, Zoe Saldana still manages to keep herself busy. She is returning as her character Neytiri in James Cameron’s Avatar sequels, and according to Cameron, she has already wrapped up all her parts.

This was confirmed at CineEurope (via Deadline) where Cameron provided a video update on the Avatar sequels. Into 130 days of production, Saldana has already finished filming her parts, and now I’m getting a feeling that Neytiri will actually be taking a backseat when it comes to the story of these sequels.

Though Jake Sully and Neytiri were the leads of the first movie, Cameron promises that this sequel will focus on younger characters this time around. Sure we’ll be getting appearances from Jake and Neytiri as well, but it looks like they’ll be more of supporting characters for our younger protagonists.

Besides Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana coming back, we also got confirmation that Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang will be coming back as well. We know that both Weaver and Lang’s characters died in the first movie, but I have a feeling they will come back in the form of recorded messages. Some even guess that Lang is actually playing a twin of Col. Quaritch.

Though the sequels are shooting now, it looks like there’s going to be a lot of work done at the pre-production level. As it currently stands, we still have to wait for two more years before we even get to see the first sequel in theaters.

Catch Avatar 2 in cinemas Dec. 18, 2020.
