Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice continues to be one of the more divisive superhero films of recent memory. Critics hated the film for its dour tone, slow pacing, and minimal character development, while DC fans liked it for some subtle characterization, great visuals, and a mean fight scene between the two heroes.
To this day, it remains a mixed bag, though Zack Snyder has been giving context to the film's various scenes recently.
This time, he decided to show why we saw Bruce Wayne with a random woman in one of the film's early scenes. Common consensus speculated that this was for Bruce to keep up his old playboy persona, but Snyder reveals that it's more depressing than that.
On Vero (via Batman-News), Snyder revealed that the painting above the couple means that Bruce Wayne uses sex as a drug. Batman is usually a broken man in most iterations, so this interesting bit of characterization fits with the Gotham Knight.
We'll never know what Snyder had planned post-Justice League since it seems like the director will no longer be affiliated with the DCEU. This is a shame since he actually had a few decent ideas, they just weren't executed well. Maybe Snyder is better off as a visual director but that's debatable.
