Young Nathan Drake For Uncharted Film Adaptation Was Tom Holland’s Idea

Gamers were a bit surprised when Sony announced that the studio was working on a film adaptation of Uncharted. Well, not because the studio decided to make a film out of the popular action-adventure, third-person shooter videogame franchise, but because they had decided that the lead role of Nathan Drake would be played by a young Tom Holland.

While Holland seems to be an excellent Marvel actor, many have are concerned about over his age since the professional treasure hunter is considerably older in the Uncharted videogames. Sony however plans to take elements from Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, featuring a much younger version of the adventurer.

Now, new reports reveal that it was actually Holland's idea to make an origin story for Drake.

Speaking in an interview with Yahoo! Movies, Holland revealed that he was the one who had actually pitched the idea of a young Nathan Drake movie to the studio.

"It sort of just came. It was a conversation I had with [Sony head] Tom Rothman about the potential of different movies that I'd like to work with Sony, and I just had the idea that maybe a young Nathan Drake would be something that audiences would be very interested in. I met Shawn [Levy] at the MTV awards and we had a brief chat about the potential of doing an origin story rather than copying what the games have done, and it seems like people have been really excited about it. I know I am. I'm excited to have some further conversations about it."

Holland certainly knows how to move his career forward and create stronger ties with Sony. Still, though some might be a bit apprehensive, it's interesting to see the studio pursue Holland's idea and shake things up. The Uncharted franchise has always featured the adventurer at his prime, why can't the movie show him growing up?

There's no release date for the film just yet, but we'll keep everyone updated as soon as we get word.
