It has previously been reported that production for the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody was put on hold due to an unexpected absence from director Bryan Singer, but now news has come out that Singer has been officially fired from the project due to his chaotic behavior.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Singer would go missing from the set on several occasions, even clashing with the movie's main star Rami Malek who plays Freddie Mercury. Malek was said to have complained to the studio about Singer for being unreliable and unprofessional.
Singer, however, says that this was due to him trying to ted to a gravely ill relative. He says:
"I wanted nothing more than to be able to finish this project and help honor the legacy of Freddie Mercury and Queen… but Fox would not permit me to do so because I needed to temporarily put my health, and the health of my loved ones, first."
Singer was said to have already been warned by Fox heads about misbehaving on set, and a representative from the Directors Guild of America has even been present on set to monitor the situation.
Singer was also said to have gotten into a dispute with Malek, and though it didn't get physical, Singer was said to have thrown an object at him. After Thanksgiving, Singer failed to be present on set, and this is what led to Fox firing him from the movie.
Though Singer does claim that he has been absent due to a family matter, a lot of people are suggesting that there is an impending story about to break detailing on his sexual misconduct. A report had come out about his misbehavior back in 2014, and with the whole Harvey Weinstein scandal starting this witch hunt, Singer may just be next in the line of fire.
As of now, Bohemian Rhapsody is without a director, but no announcements have been made on the change of release date.
