Would You Have Watched This Almost-Crossover for Supernatural & Smallville?

If there were two big TV series that debuted in early 2000s, it would have to be Smallville and Supernatural.

One dealt with the origins and adventures of a teenage Clark Kent (portrayed by Tom Welling) and gave us the only really great Lex Luthor portrayal in any live-action medium. The other dealt with all things brotherhood, family, and those that go bump in the night.

Who would've thought that somewhere along their early run, the showrunners actually planned a crossover that just never happened? In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Clark Collis, who used to be a production assistant on the set of Supernatural, revealed one of the ideas that have been tossed around in relation to Smallville.

"There was a lot of really cool ideas that some of the writers had. They had an episode where they really wanted to do a Superman curse that was about every actor who plays Superman ends up getting killed. So they find out that Tom Welling from Smallville is next and have to save him. I thought that was one of the funniest ideas that I'd heard."

Of course, just because there was a funny idea or the fact that the two shows were from the same network doesn't mean it should run. It's nice to see just how imaginative the writers could be, especially now with Supernatural keeping strong with its 12th season.

Supernatural stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki as the Winchester brothers. It airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on The CW.
