Wonder Woman's Patty Jenkins Explains Why She Left Thor 2

It was revealed just recently that Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins had been courted by Marvel to direct Thor 2 for two months before she left the project due to creative differences. Apparently, she really wanted to stay on the project, but she didn't feel like she could do anything with the script that Marvel had given her.

In an interview with Indiewire, Jenkins explains:

"It was painful and sad because I really loved those guys and I loved the idea of us making a Thor together, but it's one of those things. You have to make sure that the movie you want to make is fully the right movie for that studio too. It was heartbreaking, but I also knew that it was good… I knew that it was good because I didn't think I could make a great film out of their script."

Jenkins' version of the movie would have featured a Romeo-and-Juliet-type space opera which was based on the separation of Thor and Jane Foster, and we would have seen more of Natalie Portman in the movie. To be honest, Jane Foster isn't really a character that I like, and though I love Portman, Jane was kind of irritating and cliché in both Thor movies.

Even if the second Thor keeps getting bashed, I still really appreciate how Marvel Studios was able to up the ante with production and give us a better look at life in Asgard. We get to see the streets and the taverns, and we also get more on the lore. The first Thor wasn't really that great if I'm being honest.

Going back to Jenkins, she riding high on a cloud as Wonder Woman is currently one of the highest rated superhero films out there. Sure, that rating is bound to change once more people get to see it, but at least we finally have a DC film that won't split audiences in two (hopefully).

Wonder Woman hits theaters June 2.
