Wonder Woman Will Showcase Complex Villains

There's nothing more satisfying than to have a villain who feels that he is fighting for something right—even when it's actually moving towards something downward twisted and wrong. This makes them feel real and more believable—because we all set off to do things that we think is right based on our belief system.

The good news here is that Wonder Woman will be dabbling with this particular brand of its villains. In an interview with Collider, director Patty Jenkins revealed that the villains are actually motivated by their own selves; meaning they won't be the senseless Big Bad who's just looking for more and more power.

"The challenge was to see both the good and the bad of mankind. And, you know, Steve really ends up representing the good and the complexity of mankind. But Doctor Poison and General Ludendorff are great examples of the bad of mankind. And they're also great examples of how that is not a conscientious choice to be a villain. Every villain has their belief system that makes perfect sense to them."

This has supposedly been one of Marvel's biggest issues with its movies, and one that has only been solved with Zemo in Captain America; Civil War. We've seen our fair share of senseless villains in the DC Comic films (Enchantress, anyone?) but if Wonder Woman is able to pull off multilayered villains, I'm sure this will be the start of a better DCEU.

Wonder Woman will be out in theaters on June 2.

Synopsis:

Convinced that she can stop the threat, Diana leaves her home for the first time. Fighting alongside men in a war to end all wars, she finally discovers her full powers and true destiny.
