Wonder Woman Loses U.N. Ambassador Title Due to Complaints

Wonder Woman was supposed to be designated as an honorary United Nations ambasaador to kick off a year-long, UN worldwide campaign for gender equality with the Amazon heroine as its champion. Back in October, a special ceremony in NYC was held to celebrate the occasion, with director Patty Jenkins, Gal Gadot, Lynda Carter, and DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson in attendance, but a petition was quickly spread, opposing Wonder Woman' selection as the representative for the campaign. A segment of the petition says, "Although the original creators may have intended Wonder Woman to represent a strong and independent 'warrior' woman with a feminist message, the reality is that the character's current iteration is that of a large breasted, white woman of impossible proportions."

It looks like their argument won as Wonder Woman's time as an ambassador will be cancelled this Friday, whereas it was originally set to last in 2017.

But it seems the battle is not over. There's a counter-petition to re-instate Wonder Woman's honorary abassador status.

Wonder Woman is set to release in U.S. theaters on June 2, 2017.
