Wonder Woman Dethrones Captain America: Civil War In The Box Office, Iron Man 3 Might Be Next

Wonder Woman continues to make a big statement, by toppling one of Marvel's biggest films; Captain America: Civil War. As if that wasn't enough, it might also topple Iron Man 3 if the movie keeps dominating the box office like this. It's a big win for Warner Bros and DC, after the negative receptions Batman V Superman and Suicide Squad received.

According to Forbes, Wonder Woman earned another $445,000 during the weekend, which has been credited by the slow movie period. Still, it was enough to top the third Captain America movie, and it will be in the top 20 biggest domestic grossers of all time. This might restore some faith in the DCEU, and could even give November's Justice League a boost, since Gal Gadot will be reprising her role as the Amazon warrior.

It's good seeing Wonder Woman break the box office, and it could lead to more superhero movies with female leads. 2019's Captain Marvel might have this movie to thank if it does well, though that could also be attributed to the Marvel brand, given the number of hits that have come from the company.

The second Wonder Woman movie will supposedly be set during the Cold War, with Patty Jenkins returning to the director's chair after successfully nailing the first film. Fans hoping to see Gal Gadot sooner can do so with Justice League, which comes to theaters on November 17.
