Wolverine: Forget Old Man Logan, Meet Old Woman Laura

It looks like All-New Wolverine is about to give the Old Man Logan concept a unique spin, as Marvel's April 2018 solicitations have revealed that the series' next storyline is called Old Woman Laura. Despite the title paying homage to Mark Millar and Steve McNiven's Old Man Logan, the storyline seems to indicate a much brighter future for Laura and Marvel's heroes in general.

As the solicits reveal, the world is not a post-apocalyptic wasteland ruled by villains but a utopia where heroes were able to bring peace to the world. Old Woman Laura has given up being Wolverine but has not killed the X-Men, and is actually the benevolent queen of Madripoor. She has passed the mantle down to someone else, possibly her sister Gabbie who currently goes by the codename Honey Badger. It's an overall brighter future and is a neat spin on the grim Old Man Logan.

Unfortunately, trouble is ahead and Laura is going to have to pick up the Wolverine mantle again. The situation that leads to Laura getting the mantle again hasn't been revealed but we can expect plenty of cameos in this story. Also, judging from the cover of issue #34, it looks like Doctor Doom is involved.

This isn't the first time All-New Wolverine has paid tribute to an old Wolverine story. The series' third arc was called Enemy of the State II, though it wasn't as long or as violent as the original. Funnily enough, both original storylines were written by Mark Millar.

Series writer Tom Taylor is once again writing the story, while his Generations: Wolverine collaborator Ramon Rosanas will be illustrating the arc. The first two parts of Old Woman Laura come out in April. It starts with All-New Wolverine #33 and continues on with All-New Wolverine #34.
