Following the controversy about the Magic: The Gathering cosplayer who quit, Wizards of the Coast, the company behind Magic, has made its "first step" against a number of players for violations of the Magic Code of Conduct. The company also updated its list of suspended DCI memberships today, suspending several players from playing in DCI-sanctioned events, and banning Jeremy Hambly of Unsleeved Media for life.

As you probably know by now, Christine Sprankle, the Magic cosplayer who quit a few weeks ago, blamed Unsleeved Media for making her want to quit. Here's what Sprankle tweeted:

It has been a rough year. And I have blocked and not said anything about him because I wanted it to die but without a doubt MtGHeadquarters/UnsleevedMedia has made my life hell this whole year with his unnecessary videos/tweets about me and other members of Magic.

Other content creators in the Magic community have voiced their concerns about bullying and harassment, speaking up against Jeremy for making Sprankle quit.

In a statement published today, Wizards of the Coast addressed the issue of bullying and harassment in the Magic community, saying that the Magic Code of Conduct "prohibits players from bullying and harassing other players".

"Tackling harassment and bullying is a larger initiative for Wizards of the Coast, and we feel it is important to address the issues in the ways we can," Elaine Chase of WOTC wrote. "The Magic community is a place where gamers of all kinds are welcome, and if you think we should be doing more or have other ideas or suggestions, please let us know."

Last weekend, in the Magic World Cup, Wizards released a video titled Inclusion featuring professional Magic players as well as the official coverage team delivering one clear message: "All players are welcome."

While many members of the Magic community are pleased to see that Wizards is making efforts to promote a positive environment for players, many have also have expressed their disappointment on the company, and that's probably why the comments section of that video has been disabled.

Hambly wasn't the only one Wizards took action against. Magic pro Travis Woo received a one-year ban from the DCI for his involvement in the Magic For Bad Facebook group. For more details, you can read the article about Travis Woo's suspension here.
