Will Smith In Talks With Disney To Play Genie In Live-Action Aladdin

Mulan isn't the only classic Disney animated film that's getting its own live-action remake in the coming future. Disney is also working on a live-action film for Aladdin and it seems like the diversified entertainment conglomerate has been busy casting some of the characters of the film.

Now that Guy Ritchie is on board to direct the film, Deadline reports that Disney is in early discussions with Will Smith to voice act Genie in the live-action Aladdin. The popular Hollywood actor had previously considered joining the cast of the live-action Dumbo of Tim Burton before passing up the offer, so fans ought to be wary of celebrating the Aladdin talks just yet.

However, it seems like Disney is eager to get Smith on board – the award-winning actor who was once considered "the most powerfull actor in Hollywood" would make a good Genie for Guy Ritchie's Aladdin with his natural charm and wit.

The first genie was portrayed by Robin Williams and had the undeniable humor of the comedian. Though no one would be able to replace William's as the Genie (Disney tried once and it didn't really work for them), Smith definitely has the magnetic personality that could fit the part. We'll just wait and see - with Aladdin being scheduled to begin production in July it won't be long till we get word on the film's casting.

There's no release date for the live-action musical Aladdin just yet, but we'll keep you updated.
