Watch: Opening Sequence For American Gods Is Creepy And Fantastic

American Gods premieres on Starz in a month, and I can't wait to see what Bryan Fuller has in store for the adaptation of Neil Gaiman's best-selling novel. Starz has just released the opening sequence for the movie, and it is just the most bizarre and creepy intro.

Though no one from the actual show appears in the opening sequence, we do get a lot of images of the old idols and deities given some sort of cyberpunk infusion. It pretty much reminds me of the intro for Fuller's previous series Hannibal, as well as the opening sequences for Marvel Netflix shows like Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.

For some reason, I'm also getting some Ghost in the Shell vibes — the anime, not the live-action movie — as well as some influences from the anime cult movie, Akira.

This show is going to be amazing, and I can't wait to watch it come to life.

When Shadow Moon is released from prison, he meets the mysterious Mr. Wednesday and a storm begins to brew. Little does Shadow know, this storm will change the course of his entire life. Left adrift by the recent, tragic death of his wife, and suddenly hired as Mr. Wednesday's bodyguard, Shadow finds himself in the center of a world that he struggles to understand. It's a world where magic is real, where the Old Gods fear both irrelevance and the growing power of the New Gods, like Technology and Media. Mr. Wednesday seeks to build a coalition of Old Gods to defend their existence in this new America, and reclaim some of the influence that they've lost. As Shadow travels across the country with Mr. Wednesday, he struggles to accept this new reality, and his place in it.

American Gods premieres on Sunday, April 30 at 9 p.m. on Starz.
