Warner Brothers Officially Casts Joaquin Phoenix As Lead Star In New Joker Origin Movie

It's official. Academy Award-winning actor Joaquin Phoenix is now set to play Batman's biggest enemy in Warner Brother's Joker origin movie, The Joker.

According to Screen Rant, Warner Brothers has just officially announced Joaquin Phoenix as the new star of its untitled Joker origin movie that's set to be directed by Todd Philips and co-written by scriptwriter Scot Silver.

This is pretty big news for fans. The American actor and activist has received numerous awards for the films he's been in including a Golden Globe Award, A Grammy Award, British Academy Film Award nominations, as well as three different Academy Awards. Joaquin is known for being picky about the films he stars in, so we all know that getting the actor on board with the comic book movie was no easy feat. Phoenix joining in on the Joker origin movie can probably serve as a sign that Warner Bros. has a pretty strong script for the movie.

Information about this upcoming Joker origin movie is pretty scarce, however, based on an earlier description released by Warner Brothers calling the film as an "exploration of a man disregarded by a society that is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale," it seems like fans can expect an intelligent and complex comic book movie.

The Joker origin movie doesn't have a release date just yet but we'll let everyone know as soon as we get word.
