War for the Planet of the Apes Will See a War & an End

The long-running Planet of the Apes franchise will see quite the development in the latest title. For War of the Planet of the Apes, fans will see the biggest conflict to wrack both the humans and the apes.

Each side will have their own leaders, Caesar leading the apes and Colonel, portrayed by Woody Harrelson, the humans. And as the journey reaches this climax, fans will see that Caesar (Andy Serkis) will undergo a major change. Director Matt Reeves follows up the reboot by introducing Caesar's story as early as Rise.

War of the Planet of the Apes puts everything in a sort of perspective that readies viewers for the big and epic ending for Caesar's story. In an interview with Den of Geek, producer Peter Chernin revealed that this conclusion was something they've been preparing for:

"We made a very conscious decision frankly, when we started thinking about this seven or eight years ago, to look at these three movies as a trilogy in a lot of ways… it was inevitable from the moment apes gained intelligence that apes and humans were going to be on a collision course for what would be the dominant species on Earth. And this movie is the war to resolve that dominance. We've always looked at this as a three-part story. And the appropriate ending of that story is to see which species dominate."

Considering the foreseen end to Caesar, we may see just where exactly the character would be at the end—and where the humans will be, as well.

Even if it is the end, Chernin added that Serkis's performance is something that brings the emotions to new heights, a testament not only to his acting, but also the great flow that the story has gone through.

War for the Planet of the Apes will be released in theatres on July 14.

Synopsis:
