Venom Will Feature Ann Weying A.K.A. She-Venom; Origin Will Be Close To The Ultimate Version

So far, the only characters we know that will be in the Venom movie are Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and Carnage. Another character has been confirmed for the movie (via The Hashtag Show), and it's Eddie Brock's ex-wife from the comics, Ann Weying.

In the comics, Weying was a successful lawyer who was bonded with the Venom symbiote when she was fatally wounded by Sin-Eater—turning her into She-Venom. We don't know if she'll actually turn into She-Venom in this movie, but granted we already have two symbiote characters clashing, Sony may want to save that reveal for another movie.

It's also been suggested that the origin of the Venom suit in the movie will be more closely tied to that of the Ultimate storyline in the comics. The classic comic origin had the symbiote be an alien that grafted itself to Spider-Man then to Eddie Brock; in the Ultimate version, the Venom suit was actually created by Peter and Eddie's fathers in order to cure diseases, but the suit turned out to be unstable. Just like the original comics, it grafted itself to Spider-Man first, but then Brock found out about this, and wore it himself to spite Peter.

Considering the movie doesn't have Spider-Man in the continuity, it would make sense for Sony to use an origin that wasn't too closely related to Peter Parker. Sure they can have Peter's dad create the suit as well, but the story works just as fine without him.

Expect more Venom news to come out once production starts. Venom is set for a release Oct. 5, 2018.
