Trump's Inaugural Speech Echoes Bane's in The Dark Knight Rises

The inauguration of a U.S. President will always be a global media event. So is the new Commander-in-Chief's very first address to the American people. The whole world will watch and nitpick at every word, turn of phrase, facial expression, and promises made.

And while every media platform did its part in covering the swearing in of Donald Trump as the U.S.' 45th President, one website noticed something out of the ordinary and pointed it out: Trump's vows to return power to the apparently disenfranchised American people sounds like Bane's speech to the Gotham folks he held hostage in Christopher Nolan's Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises.

The Slot compared these similar lines said by two powerful men, one fictional, and one real. President Trump said these:

"But we are transferring power from Washington D.C. and giving it back to you... the people. For too long a small group in our nation's capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have born the cost."

Bane, the bad guy played by Tom Hardy, said these:

"We take Gotham from the corrupt! The rich! The oppressors of generations who have kept you down with myths of opportunity, and we give it back to you... the people."

Just to take it into context: Trump's winning campaign platform was based on addressing the average American's concerns about unemployment, terrorism, social security, and unchecked immigration. Bane's pronouncements were made to let loose anarchy in a city that was about to face nuclear destruction.

The Dark Knight Rises had scenes of angry Gothamites literally storming the posh homes of the rich and the powerful. Trump, one of America's wealthiest men, would not have that scenario in mind when he (or his speechwriter) penned his inaugural address.
