Tom Holland Repeatedly Auditioned For His Role As Marvel’s Spider-Man

Though he did have the good word of Marvel star Chris Hemsworth to back him up, it seems like Tom Holland still had trouble landing Peter Parker's role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Speaking in an interview with Good Morning America during his press rounds for his very first solo Marvel feature film, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Holland reveals that he had auditioned for the role about eight times. The British actor seemed to be set on nabbing the part – he actually sent the Marvel producers video auditions for so many times till he actually got to do a final audition with Chris Evans.

"For my auditions for Spider-Man, all I did was send them videos of me doing backflips. Like, by the way, I do gymnastics. Then I got to my final audition and it was a fight scene with Chris Evans, and it says Spider-Man flips in a frame. So, I said to the producers, ‘Do you want me to do a flip?' They were like, can you do a flip? Well, yes! I've been sending you all these videos for weeks!"

Holland's efforts, charm and flipping skills sure helped him land the part. And of course, Marvel made a good choice casting Holland as Spider-Man – not only was his debut in Captain America: Civil War considered one of the highlights of the film, but the British star's rendition of Marvel's favorite webslinger has been praised as one of the most comcibook accurate versions of Peter Parker as well.

Spider-Man: Homecoming hits cinemas on July 7, 2017.
