Tom Holland Hasn’t Actually Seen “That Really Old Movie Empire Strikes Back”

Tom Holland became an instant favorite among Marvel fans after his debut as Spider-Man became one of the highlights of last year's Captain America: Civil War. However, while many are excited to see Holland back on the big screen in Spider-Man: Homecoming, it seems like the young British actor isn't much of a Star Wars fan.

Though he did make a Star Wars nod in Civil War by copying off a move from "that really old movie The Empire Strikes Back," Holland just recently revealed in an interview with Yahoo! Movies after the press release of his upcoming film The Lost City of Z that he himself hasn't seen the Star Wars movie.

"I haven't seen The Empire Strikes Back, I'm not gonna lie," the actor admits.

The Marvel star hasn't seen any of George Lucas' original Star Wars trilogy – none of New Hope, Empire Strikes Back and Return of The Jedi.

Holland then explained that though he isn't a huge Star Wars fan, he has seen and enjoyed the recent Star Wars films, Rogue One and of course, The Force Awakens saying that he's a big fan of both and thinking that they were "dope" and "great fun."

He's also seen the prequels.

"And I'm even more embarrassed to say that I love those movies when I was a kid. Everyone's like, ‘What? You liked those movies?!‘" Holland said of Lucas's divisive Episodes I-III (The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith) released between 1999 and 2005. "But I thought they were great."

While some Star Wars fans may denounce the Marvel star after his revelation, we ought to remember that Holland is young, so it does make sense that he missed out on the original Trilogy. Hopefully he'll take time to go through the films so that he'd have actually seen The Empire Strikes back like Peter Parker but if not, to each his own, right? It's good enough that Holland is a legitimate fan of Spider-Man and that his fit for the part he's playing.

Spider-Man: Homecoming comes swinging into cinemas on July 7, 2017 while The Lost City Of Z opens two days from now, April 14.
