Tom Hardy Officially Cast As Venom; Movie Also Finds Director

Sony is officially moving forward with their Venom spinoff, and the studio is lucky enough to find a major Hollywood star to be in the center of the project. Say hello to your new Venom: Tom Hardy.

Here's the Twitter post:

Hardy has grown to be one of the most recognizable stars in Hollywood thanks to his roles in Dark Knight Rises, Inception, and Mad Max: Fury Road. I think his casting may prove the perfect anti-thesis to Spider-Man Tom Holland, who will no doubt be clashing with Venom a few years down the line.

Besides Hardy being cast as the lead, Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer has been hired to helm the project. Fleischer was said to have been previously attached to Suicide Squad 2, but with Venom being another big project, he'd probably be more attached to this one.

I think this is all good news for the Venom movie. Hardy is a pretty great actor and Fleischer was able to (surprisingly) make a cliché-sounding movie like Zombieland feel fresh and fun. I can't wait to see what Venom has in store for audiences.

One a side note, isn't it a fun coincidence that Tom Hardy played Batman villain Bane; who, in the comics, drew his power off a super-steroid called venom?

Sony's Venom movie is set to come out Oct. 5, 2018.
