Toby Kebell Confirms Josh Trank's 'Great Cut' of Fantastic Four We Will Never See

Josh Trank's Fantastic Four (2015) wasn't just a box office and critical disaster, its production was also a mess that probably cost Trank the chance to direct a Star Wars film. According to various reports, there was a lot of controversy between Trank and the studio. And right after the film opened, Trank tweeted that he had"a fantastic version of this" that "would have received great reviews," but that fans would "probably never see it."

While some fans probably saw that as an excuse to divert the blame of the film's failure, the actor who played Doctor Doom in the film, Toby Kebbell, has confirmed the existence of that version and agrees with the director. During an interview with The Daily Beast, he said:

"I tell you, the honest truth is [Trank] did cut a great film that you'll never see," he said. "That is a shame. A much darker version, and you'll never see it."
At least he enjoyed playing Victor von Doom, putting meticulous work into tiny details before his screen time was chopped to pieces. "I spent so long figuring out an accent that was from the mid-Eastern block, generic enough to be a guy who then lived in America. I figured that out," he grinned.
"Unfortunately," he continued, "I played Doom in three points: Walking down a corridor, killing the doctor and getting into the time machine, and lying on the bench. They were the only times I played Doom. Everything else was some other guy, on some other day… doing some other thing. I was infuriated that he was allowed to limp like that!"

The fact that Kebbel actually played Doom in only a limited amount in the film is quite surprising, but with all the mess the film was in, it probably didn't make much of a difference if those parts were included. It's a shame, however, that we didn't get to see those cuts.

Kebell also said that he's "just as heartbroken as fans are" at how the film turned out. When I first heard from Trank about the cut, I didn't really take it seriously, but now that Kebell backed it up, I actually want to see it now. Sadly, the studio will probably never release it.
