Wonder Woman Director Against Collaborating with Marvel Because 'They Want Full Control'

Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins may have done wonders working for the DC Extended Universe, however, it seems like the filmmaker isn't eager to share her talent with Marvel.

Despite being once attached to direct Thor: The Dark World, Jenkins says that she doesn't really see herself working with Marvel because of the way they produce their films. Speaking in an interview with French magazine Premiere (via News 18), the Wonder Woman 1984 director was asked whether she'd ever considered working on a movie for Marvel.

Though Jenkins loves the people who work at Marvel Studios, the director seems to have a problem with the way the studio wants "full control over the movies."

"The director is under (the) control (of Marel). Yes, it can happen. Furthermore, It shows immediately if a director cannot impose his/her vision. When this is the case, I get the impression that these people are doing a different job than me," the filmmaker told the publication.

According to Jenkins, things worked differently for her when she was directing Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984. Warner Brothers gave her the freedom to achieve the vision she had for the film.

"With Wonder Woman 1984, I think I did exactly what I wanted," Jenkins said, "And then, everything a superhero movie needs comes naturally to me: I love shooting great action scenes versus great sets. I really enjoy it."

Jenkin's comments about Marvel being controlling may sound like a bit of a surprise to fans. Marvel directors like James Gunn have always touted the creative freedom they've had with their projects. However, there are directors like Edgar Wright who do say that they weren't given as much creative control by Marvel.

At least Jenkins is happy where she is.

Wonder Woman 1984 is set to release on August 12, 2020.
