Thor Director Taika Waititi Responds To Jojo Rabbit Nabbing Six Oscar Nominations

Earlier this week, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released its list of nominations for the 92nd Academy Awards, and the list revealed that Jojo Rabbit, the comedy-drama by Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, had received six nominations from the Award giving body.

While the Academy didn't really nominate Waititi for Best Director, Jojo Rabbit did nab a nomination for Best Picture, as well as a nomination for Best Production Design, Best Film Editing, Best Costume Design, and Best Adapted Screenplay. It also got Marvel star Scarlett Johansson a nomination for Best Supporting actress.

Basking in the love showered on Jojo Rabbit, Waititi decided to take to Twitter to celebrate the many nominations given his film.

"Pretty sweet, bro. 6 Nominations #AcademyAwards#JojoRabbit#OscarNoms," the filmmaker wrote in a post sharing an image from Jojo Rabbit.

A lot of fans and celebrities commented on the post, congratulating the New Zealand director for all the nominations that his film nabbed at the 92nd Academy Awards. For those who aren't familiar with the film, Jojo Rabbit is a movie based on the book Caging Skies by Christine Leunens. The film tells the story of Johannes "Jojo" Betzler (Roman Griffin Davis), a member of the Hitler Youth who discovers that his mother (Johansson) is hiding a Jewish girl (Thomasin McKenzie) in their attic. This forces the young boy to question his beliefs, altogether while dealing with his imaginary friend, a whimsical version of Adolf Hitler played by Waititi himself.

Now that Waititi is done with Jojo Rabbit, the filmmaker can put his focus on his net Marvel movie, Thor: Love and Thunder.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set for release on November 5, 2021.
