Star Wars isn't the only franchise plagued by toxic fans. Netflix also has The Witcher fans bombarding its upcoming live-action series, attacking the series' cast and crew even before the show can begin.
Sitting down for an interview with Jake Hamilton on the Emmy winner's YouTube Channel Jake's Takes, The Witcher's Geralt of Rivia actor Henry Cavill talks about "toxic fandoms" and opens up about the hostility that he's had to meet after he was cast in the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski's books.
Though there are fans who've criticized The Witcher showrunner Lauren Hissrich for her decision in casting the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star as Geralt of Rivia, Cavill doesn't really consider the fanbase toxic.
"When it comes to fans, it is a fan's right to have whatever opinion they want to have, and people are going to be upset... I don't necessarily consider that toxic. I just consider that passion," the actor explained during his sit-down with Hamilton.
Passion can be a good thing, but when fans go out of their way to personally attack a project's cast and crew, then that's a whole different story, really. However, it seems like Cavill has a whole lot of patience and tolerance when it comes to dealing with "passionate" fans – a trait that we should all admire.
Of course, The Man of Steel actor isn't really a stranger to criticism and negativity from fans. There's been a lot of that in the DC Extended Universe.
The Witcher is set to premiere on Netflix on December 20, 2019.
