The Rise of Skywalker Now Tied with Phantom Menace as Lowest Scoring Star Wars Movie

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker might have been one of the most highly anticipated films of 2019, however, the third and final entry in Disney's Star Wars sequel trilogy has become one of the most divisive films in the franchise, suffering from mixed to negative reviews from critics.

Now, it seems like The Rise of Skywalker has just tied with Star Wars: The Phantom Menace to become the worst-reviewed entry in the entire Star Wars franchise.

The Rise of Skywalker might have initially had a Rotten Tomatoes score higher than The Phantom Menace, but now it seems like the film's 58% critic score on the aggregate review site has dropped down to a bare 53%. That's the same score that's plagued The Phantom Menace.

Forbes took the liberty of listing down all of the franchise's different movies according to the strength of their critic scores, and it looks like The Rise of Skywalker is on the very bottom of that list together with The Phantom Menace.

Here's the full list:

The Empire Strikes Back – 94%

A New Hope – 93%

The Force Awakens – 93%

The Last Jedi – 91%

Rogue One – 83%

Return of the Jedi – 82%

Revenge of the Sith – 80%

Solo – 70%

Attack of the Clones – 65%

The Phantom Menace – 53%

The Rise of Skywalker – 53%

These new results might surprise Star Wars fans, however, critics can't seem to forgive Episode IX for its odd pacing and for its convoluted narrative. According to critics consensus of the film, The Rise of Skywalker seems to suffer "from a frustrating lack of imagination," even though it does conclude "this beloved saga with fan-focused devotion."

We're hoping that the score for The Rise of Skywalker doesn't really go any lower.
