The Next Generation Cast Won’t Be Joining Patrick Stewart In His New Star Trek Series

Star Trek icon Patrick Stewart might have been asked to reprise his role as Jean-Luc Picard in his very own Star Trek series from CBS All Access, but it looks like his castmates from Star Trek: The Next Generation won't be coming along with him.

Fans were hoping to see the rest of The Next Generation appearing along with Stewart in his new Star Trek series after seeing a TNG cast reunion photo posted online. The Next Generation's stars all gathered together for a little reunion over dinner earlier this month, and Marina Sirtis decided to share the image on Twitter. Unfortunately, it seems like the TNG cast dinner will simply remain as that – dinner.

Speaking in a recent interview with Trek Movie, The Next Generation's Sirtis was asked whether or not she'd be appearing in the series along with Stewart. According to the actress, when Stewart made the announcement that Jean-Luc Picard was returning to the small screen, he didn't mean that TNG was returning.

"All I have to say, all we have to say - I am speaking for all three of us now - when Patrick said ‘Jean-Luc Picard is back,' he didn't say TNG is back," Sirtis told the publication.

Dr. Crusher actor Gates McFadden and Worf star Michael Dorn went on to say the same thing. According to the TNG stars, they weren't asked by CBS to return along with Stewart in his new series.

While this might come off as disappointing news to the Star Trek fanbase, Sirtis makes a strong point. CBS never said that it was bringing TNG back, instead saying Stewart would have his own brand new series. We'll probably be seeing Picard with a new set of faces on a new adventure in the upcoming Star Trek show.

Stewart's Star Trek series doesn't have a release date yet, but we'll update everyone as soon as we get word.
