The LEGO Movie 2 On Why Marvel Heroes Don’t Make Appearances In The Franchise

The Lego Movie franchise might have an assortment of characters from a wide range of licenses, but the growing 3D computer-animated movie franchise has always been missing characters from a popular comic book movie universe.

While The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part features heroes like Batman and other DC comics characters, The Lego movie sequel still fails to feature any Marvel heroes on the big screen and now we have a reason why.

In the film, General Mayhem of the Systar System attacks Apocalypsburg and kidnaps The LEGO Movie fans favorite heroes (via ComicBook.com). Right after the invasion, Emmet (Chris Pratt) and the other survivors gather around discussing which allies they can try to recruit for a rescue mission.

While Emmet and the group throw around ideas, someone mentions heroes from Marvel, unfortunately "they're not answering calls."

While that might seem like a simple and childish answer to Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, and the rest of the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy's absence in The LEGO Movie franchise, it does work in a narrative sense. It's also a pretty fun way to make a jab at the licenses behind the characters – perhaps Marvel really doesn't pick up any of The LEGO Movie producer's calls.

Of course, things might be more complicated than that. The LEGO Movie films are being produced by Warner Bros. Animation. It'd make sense for the studio to want to stick to its own – Warner Brothers already has the DCEU, why bring in other heroes from other franchises, really?

The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part is now screening in cinemas.
