The Incredibles Director Brad Bird On Fantastic Four Movie For The MCU

Marvel fans have been eagerly looking forward to the introduction of the X-Men and the Fantastic Four into the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since Disney completed its merger with 21st Century Fox. However, while there have been rumors going around saying that The Incredible director Brad Bird would be bringing the Fantastic Four under the Marvel banner in a live-action film, the filmmaker doesn't really seem interested in working on a movie for Marvel's first family.

Bird recently took to Twitter to announce that he's currently working on a project that revolves around a "new idea" and fans decided to ask the director what this meant for the rumored Fantastic Four movie. The filmmaker went on to confirm that he wasn't going to direct any sort of Fantastic Four project – though he does hope that he's making "Fantastic Something Original."

This news might come as a disappointment to fans. Everyone's been hoping to see Bird to reboot the Fantastic Four franchise for years, mostly because of the similarity The Incredibles shares with Marvel's First Family.

Of course, fans shouldn't be expecting Bird to take on the Fantastic Four just yet. Marvel has yet to introduce Fox's slew of mutant heroes into the MCU. Right now it seems like the studio's still preoccupied working on the next two phases of the franchise to set up the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, though speculation has it that The Eternals and that WandaVision might help with that.

WandaVision premieres on Disney+ in Spring 2021.
