The CW Reportedly Planning To Develop A Superman TV Series

It looks like The CW might be planning to develop a new Superman television series to add to its collection of DC shows.

According to a new report by Fandom Wire, rumors have started going around that The CW intends to treat this year's Arrowverse crossover event, Elseworlds, as a backdoor pilot for a Superman television series. The network is reportedly planning to scrutinize how fans and critics respond to Tyler Hoechlin's performance as Superman and Elizabeth Tulloch's performance as Lois Lane, noting whether or not the two would generate enough interest for a Superman spin-off.

Though the rumors have yet to be confirmed, this backdoor pilot seems to be quite a similar approach to the rumored plans The CW has for Batwoman who will also be introduced in the Elseworlds crossover event.

If true, then this is definitely exciting news for DC fans. While Hoechlin was praised for his portrayal of the Son of Krypton in Supergirl with many equating the actor's energy to Christopher Reeves', the actor was never really given his own series. Fans would definitely be interested in seeing more of Hoechlin in action in his own show.

However, fans should also take this report with a grain of salt. A rumor remains a rumor until it's confirmed. Fandom Wire stresses out that these plans for a Superman series s still very early in development, and it's also very likely that the whole project won't come to fruition.

Let's just cross our fingers and wait and see.
