The Batman Reportedly Slated For Production Later This Year

Sure, Ben Affleck might have decided to resign from his post as the DC Extended Universe's Caped Crusader, but there's still a lot of excitement over Matt Reeve's upcoming The Batman. Now, after much discussion from fans and critics, it looks like the film is finally getting a production schedule.

Production Weekly has a new listing revealing upcoming film's schedules (via ComicBook.com), and according to the list, The Batman is slated to begin production sometime in December this year. Though the report doesn't give out a specific date, it does indicate that the film's production is set to begin around "early December."

The Publication has the film listed under DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures. DC's former president, Geoff Johns, has been listed as the project's executive producer, just like he usually has been titled in many of the DCEU's other entries.

With production set to begin this year, details about the project have gradually been released. Speaking in a recent interview, Reeves opened up about his project, emphasizing the need for good movies with great characters.

"Right now, I'm involved in The Batman," Reeves explained, "What it will be called ultimately, I don't know. Aquaman is going to be very different from the Todd Phillips Joker movie, and that's going to be different from Shazam and Harley Quinn. Warners believes they don't have to try to develop a giant slate that has to have all the plans for how it's going to connect. What they need to try and do is make good movies with these characters."

Right now, The Batman is expected to feature a younger iteration of Bruce Wayne who has yet to be cast. Hopefully, we'll learn more about the film as it approaches principal photography.

The Batman is set for release on June 25, 2021.
