Thanos Creator Jim Starlin Originally Wanted Idris Elba Or Arnold Schwarzenegger As The MCU’s Mad Titan

Josh Brolin might have given an exceptional performance playing Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, however, the Mad Titan's comic book creator, Jim Starlin, didn't really expect to see the actor take on the role.

Speaking with Chuck Load of Comics at this year's Ace Comic-Con in Chicago over the weekend, Starlin revealed that Brolin had never been in his list of potential actors to play Thanos, explaining that he had always believed that the role would simply be a voiceover job.

According to Starlin, the actors he originally envisioned for the role were those with deep voices like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Idris Elba.

"Brolin was never on my list of potential Thanoses because I always thought it was just going to be a voiceover job," the legendary comic book writer said. "You know, [An] animated character. That is how they were doing it at that point. And the new technology was only being introduced just about the time they first introduced him in the Avengers. I was thinking somebody like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Idris Elba, anybody with a deep voice. That was the only thing I had on the agenda as far as I was thinking who to have."

However, film technology advanced over the years, and Marvel needed someone to not only voice but to legitimately act out the role of Thanos. Eventually, the studio decided to cast Brolin in the role, and so far his work has been nothing but exceptional.

Starlin believes so as well, praising the actor's performance saying that he just "can't imagine anybody else playing that character." We feel the same way as well.
