Taika Waititi Responds to Reports of Him Taking on a New Star Wars Movie

It's been quite a wild ride for the Star Wars franchise. The future of the galaxy far, far away has become quite uncertain ever since Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss decided to exit from their promised Star Wars trilogy to focus on their new deal with Netflix. There's been a lot of anxiety about what Lucasfilm has planned next for Star Wars because Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker has long since been released, marking the end of the entire Skywalker saga.

Today, new reports came out saying that Lucasfilm's finally managed to set a course for the franchise, revealing that the studio had tapped Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi to work on a new Star Wars movie. The news riled up the entire Star Wars fanbase. There's been a lot of love for Waititi's style and sense of humor in the Hollywood industry. Ragnarok was seen as a welcome rejuvenation of the Thor film franchise and Waititi's most recent movie, Jojo Rabbit, has been doing well at the awards circuit, raking in 6 nominations from this year's Oscars.

Responding to the reports, Waititi decided to take to Twitter to share a picture of the album cover of Rumors by Fleetwood Mac, seemingly indicating that the rumors are nothing more than that.

Whether Waititi's trying to cover up the news or whether he's telling the truth, we know one thing's for sure: having Waititi direct a new Star Wars movie would be welcome news. Not only is the director well-loved for his creativity and humor, but he's also had experience working on a Star Wars project before, directing an episode of Jon Favreau's Star Wars live-action series, Star Wars: The Mandalorian.

Waititi would be the perfect fit for a new Star Wars movie.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian is currently streaming on Disney+.
