Taika Waititi Didn’t Struggle Convincing Natalie Portman To Return For Thor: Love And Thunder

Marvel fans were pretty surprised when Marvel Studios announced that Natalie Portman was returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this time as Jane Foster's version of Thor. No one was really expecting the actress to return to the franchise after her last appearance in the franchise and no one was really expecting her to return as the Mighty Thor in Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi's new Marvel movie, Thor: Love and Thunder.

Speaking in an interview with UPROXX to help promote his upcoming film, Jojo Rabbit, Waititi was asked to reveal a few details about his second Marvel movie. According to the director, he didn't really have to do that much to get Portman to return, saying that the actress pretty much wanted to reprise her role as Jane Foster.

"I mean, I didn't have to do much," Waititi told the publication during the interview, "And, I think for her it was about making the character interesting. And I think especially when you're playing "an Earthling who's just into science" in one of these big movies, it kind of gets a bit sort of, you know… After doing that for two movies, you want to do something different. I think for her, the thing that might've been attractive about this is being able to step it up and be a superhero. And I'd rather her do that than play a scientist. And it's also from the comics as well. So it's not something we made up."

We understand why Portman would be more eager to return to the franchise with Waititi helming Marvel's Thor movies. The director who used to be known for indie darlings turned Thor: Ragnarok into a major success with fans and critics praising the film for its bright colors and for its humor. Now, Marvel wants the same formula for its next Thor movie.
