Star Wars’ Warwick Davis Tells Fans To Enjoy The Divisive Last Jedi As “Piece Of Entertainment”

Star Wars: The Last Jedi might be enjoying critical and commercial success, however, the film has also been receiving quite a number complaints from fans who feel like the sequel trilogy installment went too far changing Luke's character and subverting everyone's expectations.

Star Wars veteran and Last Jedi voice actor Warwick Davis says he was shocked by fans negative reactions towards The Force Awakens sequel, telling Metro (via The List) in a recent interview that he'll "always love Star Wars."

"I wasn't aware it had a divided opinion but all movies divide opinion - some people will like it, some people won't. I'll always love Star Wars," Davis said. "It's a piece of entertainment, it's not about making political statements. It's just there for people to enjoy. You go in there and are supposed to lose yourself in the world the director has created. Star Wars has always been a great example of that - it's pure escapism and you can forget the 21st century for a couple of hours. That was George Lucas's philosophy with Star Wars - to make a fun adventure."

Some fans just weren't too keen seeing the changes director Rian Johnson made to Luke Skywalker, going crazy over how the Master Jedi was turned into a jaded and grisly old hermit. Others were hurt that the film decided to throw away all the different theories that fans made, turning Rey (Daisy Ridley) into a nobody and killing of Snoke before Episode IX. Guess fans just have a different sense of adventure – though a good few did end up enjoying The Last Jedi.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is currently screening in cinemas.
