Star Wars Theory Suggests That Luke Skywalker May Have Been A Ghost Even Before TLJ

There's been a lot of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker fan theories making the rounds online, and some of them can get pretty wild. There are some theories that suggest that Rey (Daisy Ridley) may end up being a reincarnation of Darth Vader. There are others that suggest that Palpatine might appear with a Sith Army and a fleet. There are others that also suggest that Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) might return as a being higher than a Force Ghost in Episode IX.

Now, this new fan theory on Reddit tries to suggest something even wilder, something that offers fans a horror-twist to the Star Wars saga.

While Star Wars fans know for a fact that Luke Skywalker died sacrificing his life for the Resistance in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, this fan theory says that the Jedi Master may have died a long, long time before Rey arrived on Ahch-To.

"He was killed when Kylo Ren attacked the Jedi Academy a decade ago. Luke didn't know how to turn into a ghost-like Yoda and Obi-Wan did (never learned that trick)," the theory explains, "so he was lost in some magical force plain of existence and couldn't really materialize before people. That's why he couldn't save Han, he couldn't kill Snoke, etc. He could only project visions into people's minds in one particular place in the galaxy that is strong with the force."

Apparently, what we see with Rey on the island is simply visions of Luke. The Jedi Master isn't really there. This theory suggests that Luke isn't really a jaded hermit, but a confused ghost that's found itself disconnected from the land of the living.

It's a stretch really, but a fun theory to contemplate over.
