Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Crew Were Reportedly Asked To Stop Criticizing The Last Jedi

Star Wars: The Last Jedi was a commercial and critical success when it premiered back in December 2017, however, the film was also swathed in controversy as it divided the fanbase.

While the film did have quite an number of supporters, a vocal group of Star Wars fans lashed out at Rian Johnson's Star Wars entry, complaining endlessly about the film's attempts at subverting fan expectations and at it's "misuse" of legacy characters like Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill).

Now, as Star Wars moves on to the third and final film in Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, a new rumor suggests that Episode IX crew members have been criticizing The Last Jedi and have been asked to stop.

According to a report by the fan site Disney Star Wars Is Dumb, the rumor comes from a 4chan The Rise of Skywalker question and answer board where an alleged crew member was asked what it was like to work on the set of a Star Wars film.

Not only was this crew member asked what it was like working with director J.J. Abrams, they were also asked whether the team joked about Rian Johnson and his film. Apparently, the team "didn't really speak" to Abrams at all. The crew member also noted that there were "a lot of people" who would criticize The Last Jedi, so much so that the team was told to "stop doing it on set."

Of course, as spicy and as interesting as this rumor might sound, fans ought to be reminded to take this information with a huge grain of salt. Anyone can claim to be a Star Wars crew member online and then spew out all sorts of things like this. Take this report as a rumor until there's actual confirmation from Lucasfilm or from a reliable source.

Lucasfilm is set to release Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on December 20, 2019.
